Exclusions from schools are down, but in some year groups they are still high
During the pandemic, the rate of permanent exclusions from schools1 fell to a record low. It then rose sharply for three years, reaching the highest level since the current way of collecting data began.2 The most recent figures (covering the academic year 2024/25) suggest the peak has been passed.
